The 4th Annual Great Adirondack Moose Festival, New York State’s first-ever moose themed festival, will be held in Indian Lake the weekend of September 28 and 29, 2013 and will feature the annual moose calling contest. This year’s Moose Festival will include a variety of programs, games, contests, and exhibitions including family-friendly Adirondack back-country experiences such as a Moose River Plains self-guided tour, guided hikes to Sawyer Mountain and Castle Rock, and the Tour de Moose mountain bike tour.
Adirondack Guide Joe Hackett will be the contest master of ceremony and one of the official judges of the moose calling contest, which will include two categories, adult and children, and will be held at the Indian Lake Theater.
Other Festival activities include; Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center exhibit and demonstrations, fly fishing demonstrations, Indian Lake Museum Open House, Blue Mountain Lake Historic Boat Tour, Adirondack Quilt Show, Vendors and Crafters in the Big Moose Tent, an Old Fashion Turkey Shoot, Count the Moose Scat Contest, Adirondack Art Moose Hunt and Moosterpiece fun games and activities for children and much more, all with a moose theme. The festival mascot, Bruce the Moose, will be visiting different festival activities throughout the weekend.
According to the event chairs Brenda Valentine, Christine Pouch and Aaron Gadway, “The festival is a celebration of the return of the moose to the Adirondacks and is designed to offer a multigenerational Adirondack experiences. This community-wide event features a host of Adirondack style and moose-themed family fun activities.”
