Supporters of the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) efforts on behalf of New York snow sport athletes will be hitting the Mountain Course at the Lake Placid Club for the 12th Annual NYSEF Open golf tournament on Sunday, June 6, 2010. With the event less than a month away 24 teams and 26 sponsors have already registered, with an expected 35+ teams to compete.
Last year’s event raised over $10,000 for area athletes competing in snow sports – alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, cross country skiing, nordic combined and biathlon. This year’s 2010 Olympics boasted 7 former and current NYSEF athletes representing the United States, including: Nick Alexander (Ski Jumping), Lowell Bailey (Biathlon), Tim Burke (Biathlon), Bill Demong (Nordic Combined), Peter Frenette (Ski Jumping), Haley Johnson (Biathlon), and Andrew Weibrecht (Alpine Skiing).
Registration for this year’s event includes a free practice round on Saturday, June 5th after 2pm or a rematch on Monday morning for those interested. The four person teams play a schamble, as opposed to a scramble, where each player tees off and the rest of the hole is played off of the farthest drive. Complimentary burgers, dogs and refreshments (non-alcoholic) are served during the awards ceremony and raffle. Beer and wine is offered as well for a nominal fee. Discounted rooms are available at the Crowne Plaza for tournament participants.
The annual raffle offers some prizes that include Yankee tickets, Red Sox tickets, Whiteface lift tickets, golf items, NYSEF gear and more. Each competitor receives a raffle ticket with their registration and additional tickets will be sold at $10/ticket. Each raffle ticket purchase at the $10 also doubles as a Mulligan at the event. — A mulligan, most simply put, is a “do-over.” Hit a bad shot? Purchase a mulligan and replay your stroke.
The New York Ski Educational Foundation is looking for additional teams, individual golfers, sponsors and donors. All funds generated by the tournament benefit winter sports athletes locally and across the state. Entry fee for the tournament is $95 per person or $380 per team and $150- to sponsor a tee which includes the sign or $125- for returning sponsors.
