For the 6th year, the Adirondack Coast Cultural Alliance (ACCA) has organized free admission to 14 participating museums, cultural centers and historical societies for the first weekend in June.
The Champlain Valley Transportation Museum’s Director and Fundraising and Membership Lisa Fountain says, “This weekend our Kids Station will be open on Saturday only. We will have crafts for parents and children to do together. This year we have our Robotics coach Justin Collins here with a robot demonstration. Kids can test the robot and play with it. Justin runs our Robotics Camp in the summer. He will be available to answer any questions regarding the camp.”
If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out some or all of these Museum Day participating institutions, stop by Babbie Rural & Learning Museum, Clinton County Historical Association, Champlain Valley Transportation Museum, Heart’s Delight Farm Heritage Exhibit, Imaginarium Children’s Museum, The Alice T Miner Museum, Kent-DeLord House Museum, Lyon Mountain Mining and Railroad Museum, North Country Cultural Center for the Arts/Strand Theatre (NCCCA), North Star Underground Railroad Museum, North New York American-Canadian Genealogical Society, Plattsburgh State Art Museum, Plattsburgh Town Hall, War of 1812 Museum, or the Town of Schuler Falls Historians’ Office.
Make sure to ask about the ACCA Passport. Though this weekend offers free admission, each passport can be used to collect the necessary stamps from each venue throughout the summer. Participants must collect one stamp from each venue by September 12, 2013 in order to be eligible for prizes from Ausable Chasm, Titus Mountain, Parker Family Maple Farm and more.
“This is a weekend for everyone to come and see these museums that are right in their own back yard,” says Fountain. “We have had so many people that never knew these museums existed and now look forward to Museum Day each year.”
All the venues will be open on Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, from 10 am – 4 pm with the exception of the NCCCA (Sunday noon – 3 pm), the American-Canadian Genealogic Society (closed Sunday), and Schuyler Falls Historians’ Office (Sunday 1-4). There is also a free bus that will be running on Saturday only. Enjoy!
