Though there are plenty of activities and reasons to get outside this Father’s Day weekend, the Kate Mountain Music Festival and BBQ is one opportunity to put some spring in your step.
On Saturday, June 15, Vermontville is bringing a buffet of musical talent to the Fourth Annual Kate Mountain Music Festival. With vendors, children’s games, and silent auction starting at 10 am, the musical talent will kick off at noon with blues guitarist Chaz DePaolo.
Organized by the Kate Mountain Community Recreation Association (KMCRA), the Kate Mountain Music Festival’s focus is to provide a place for families to spend some quality time together. According to Founder and President of KMCRA Derrick Romeo the goal is to bring back old-fashioned family time.
“There is no fee for the event and the music is free,” says Romeo. “The only thing we charge for is the food. There are also vendors and a flea market and there are charges for that. It is an open festival. Each year we have different musicians that want to get involved and give back to the community.”
The outdoor concert will take place rain or shine with the following line up:
Noon – 12:45 Chaz DePaolo
1:00 – 1:45 Don Perkins and the Perkins Family band
2:00 – 2:45 Phil Henry
3:00 – 3:45 Keith Gorgas
4:00 – 4:45 John (Mad Dog) Marino
5:00 – 5:45 Inisheer
6:00 – 6:45 Keith King and Damaged Goods
According to Romeo other committee members have organized old-fashioned family fun. Some games may include potato sack races, balloon races and other assorted game reminiscent of family gatherings.
“We wanted to carry on the tradition of coming together and enjoying time together,” says Romeo. “Community is not just one location, but the gathering of people. We have an open door policy to all people. Community is not just one speck on the map.”
The Kate Mountain Music Festival is a non-alcoholic event located on State Route 3 in Vermontville. Make sure to bring your own chair, seating is not provided. Enjoy!
