Public Meeting On Lake George Beach Road Project

Lake George Beach RoadThe State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will host a public informational meeting on the proposed road and parking lot modification projects on Thursday, November 14, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Lake George Town Hall, 20 Old Post Road, Lake George.

DEC is expected to provide information and answer questions regarding Phase II and Phase III of the Beach Road stormwater management project to update the public on what is proposed and the timeline for completing the project.

Phase II of the project involves construction on the portion of Beach Road on DEC-managed lands. When the project is completed, the road will be paved with porous pavement and contain stormwater management infrastructure, matching the work done by Warren County on Beach Road in Phase I.

Phase III involves the parking area for DEC’s Lake George Beach (aka Million Dollar Beach) and relocation of the adjacent boat launch. Use of  porous asphalt and drainage collection piping is expected to be maximized in the reconstruction of the parking lot.

DEC’s proposes to site the new boat launch east of the Lake George Bath House. The proposed design for the boat launch includes a site for a portable boat washing station.

Boat washing station is a good idea, but also a waste of money if there is no enforcement on use. Those that refuse to use such a washing station are the ones who will be causing the problem of spreading invasives. Those who use a washing station on a self-volunteer basis have already been educated and are not a part of the problem anymore.
