The History Train calls on the talents and expertise of a number of representatives of our historic area, with a unique venue provided by the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. It promises to be a fun and informative ride from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid and back, engaging the community with the history of the Adirondack Tri-Lakes area.

The History Train will feature an enhanced version of “Motion Pictures of Saranac Lake’s Historic Past” (from the Adirondack Research Room of the Saranac Lake Free Library), presented by Jim Griebsch in one car. In another car, area local history experts will present about topics of local history. Amy Catania, Executive Director of Historic Saranac Lake will present on Saranac Lake. There will be a presentation about Lake Placid (TBA). Jim Ellis will cover Tupper Lake, and Wayne Tucker will give perspective on Paul Smith’s and White Pine camp.

As the train is turned around in Lake Placid, everyone will switch cars to experience the full event. No reservations are necessary and the train ride is free of charge.
