CORRECTION: The press release announcing this new website misstated who is eligible to be listed on the new website. All tourism-related businesses are listed, whether they are members of the Chamber of Commerce or not. Chamber members that are not necessarily tourism-related businesses will be added in the future in a business directory. (For example, service-related businesses that don’t fit into the leisure travel navigation categories, like a lawyer.) This story has been corrected to reflect this new information.
The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has announced the launch of the newly designed TupperLake.com.
The redesigned site is geared toward promoting visitor experiences available in the towns of Tupper Lake and Piercefield, from hiking to shopping to historic sites, and includes an events calendar. The new site design is responsive, which means that it displays properly in all screen sizes and formats from desktop to tablet, phablet, and phone.
The site currently includes tourism-related businesses in Tupper Lake and Piercefield. Each business listing can include multiple photos, and can also include a link to adirondacksusa.com, for those who have a 360-degree panorama on that site.
Tourism-related business owners who find listing information is incorrect or not included can contact Kristin Strack at (518) 523-2445 extension 109 to be added to the database.
ROOST is a 501(c)6 nonprofit corporation that is responsible for promoting the Schroon Lake Region, Lake Champlain Region, Whiteface Region, the Saranac Lake area, Lake Placid/High Peaks, the Tupper Lake area and Hamilton County regions of the Adirondacks to the traveling public.
Example of a constant problem with CoC’s.They want to promote businesses but only those businesses who pay dues. So they create promotional material that is partial and incomplete as most/many businesses don’t belong to the chamber for many reasons. Supposedly this approach”punishes” free rider businesses into joining but it never does. A better way is to include everybody and use a positive approach. This crippled approach would only be useful to say attract people who for some reason wanted to restrict their Tupper Lake experience Chamber members only. Duh?
Great website.
Actually ROOSt is being paid by taxpayer funds from Town and Village for their work so technically limiting the listing of businesses to only Chamber Members really is not fair to the non members. If the Chamber is footing the bill without taxpayer funds then absolutely it should be limited to members only. That is not the case in the current scenario.
To clarify, ALL tourism-related businesses in Tupper Lake and Piercefield are listed on the new tupperlake.com website. Chamber of Commerce members are represented with an enhanced photo listing.
All tourism-related business owners – chamber members or not – whose listing information is incorrect or who do not find their listing on the site should contact Kristin Strack at 518.523.2445 x109.
On behalf of ROOST, I apologize for the confusion.
