Saranac Lake Skate Park Opening Event July 26

Saranac Lake Skate ParkThe Grand Opening Celebration of the new Saranac Lake SkatePark will be held on Sunday, July 26th, from noon until 3 pm. The highlight of the day’s events will be a skateboarding demonstration by designer Brad Siedlecki of Arizona and skaters from the Artisan SkatePark construction crew.

There will also be free food, drinks, music and free raffles for a complete skateboard, t-shirts and assorted skate gear. Kiwanis Club of Saranac Lake will be present to distribute free helmets. Other safety gear is available.

Skatepark designer Brad Siedlecki has a connection to the Adirondacks, with family ties to Star Lake and annual camping vacations on Cranberry Lake. The Saranac Lake SkatePark’s hubba ledge has a unique transition feature according to Siedleckiand, who says he refers to the design as the “Saranac.”

Located in Saranac Lake’s Midtown Lot at 155 Church Street, the 5,200 square foot all-concrete skate park facility was once a parking lot. It opened for skating on July 17.

The SkatePark is the culmination of an 11-year effort by the Saranac Lake SkatePark Committee. The local support and grassroots effort helped the SkatePark receive a Tony Hawk Foundation Grant Award in August 2013 for $25,000. The Village of Saranac Lake provided the initial site preparation.
