Saranac Lake: Meet Our Muslim Neighbors

muslim neighborsThree Muslim community members will lead a panel discussion hosted by the Saranac Lake Ecumenical Council’s Peace with Justice Committee on Monday April 4, at 7 pm in the Cantwell Community Room of the Saranac Lake Free Library.

North Country residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the five pillars of Islam: faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and pilgrimage.

Participating in the panel will be Mufti Muhammed Abdullah, Ataullah Abdullah, and Miralem “Micky” Cecunjanin. Mufti Muhammed Abdullah, a widely respected scholar of the Qur’an, has served the community for many years as a prison chaplain. His son Ataullah Abdullah, who attended school in Saranac Lake and subsequently studied abroad, is also a scholar of the Qur’an. Miralem “Micky” Cecunjanin may be best known to local residents for his family business “La Bella.”
