Soundwaves Concert Series Announces Line-Up

soundwavesSoundwaves has announced the line-up of the 2016 summer concert series at Ballard Park in Westport. North Country resident and veteran Jazz trumpeter Taylor Haskins and his wife Catherine founded Soundwaves in 2014 when they accepted the role as volunteer organizers of the Westport Community Concert Series.

This years concert series will feature six diverse performances by internationally renowned artists.

7/7 Camila Meza, with her multi-lingual songs, and modern approach to the guitar.

7/14 Richard Julian, Brooklyn & New Orleans based singer-songwriter, will perform his songs, which blend the sardonic and the bittersweet.

7/21 Robinson Morse’s Sound of Mind, will present his eclectic blend of instrumental soul with his 10-piece aggregation he calls Sound of Mind.

7/28 The Snaz, whose 2015 release Running Away from Home, was deemed by the Burlington Free Press “The year’s most-exciting album.”

8/4 Sarah Neufeld, a member of the Canadian indie-rock band Arcade Fire, will be presenting music from her new album The Ridge, along with drummer Stefan Schneider.

8/11 Nir Felder, deemed “the next big jazz guitarist” by NPR, performing his memorable instrumental compositions.

On Friday July 22nd, from 10:30-11:30 am, Soundwaves curator & musician Taylor Haskins will present a free workshop called Soundwaves Kids! Haskins will introduce children to the concept, meaning, and nature of actual sound waves. This free workshop will take place on the trail at Black Kettle Farm in Essex where we will explore the reflections, refractions, and resonance of sound waves in a natural environment. Taylor will use native American wooden flutes and other instruments to demonstrate the behavior of sound in the open air along different sections of the trail, and will also explore exercises in deep listening in order to cultivate a heightened awareness of the world of sound and the sound of the world around us.

Preregistration is required, as space is limited. A parent/guardian must accompany children. To sign up, email Soundwaves at soundwaveswestport@gmail.com. Suggested donation $5.

The 2016 summer series begins July 7th at 7:30 and continues every Thursday night through August 11th on the hillside amphitheater overlooking Lake Champlain, known as the Ballard Park Performance Pavilion, located on Main Street. The rain site is across Main Street/Route 22 in the historic chapel of the Westport Heritage House.
