Haskins will introduce children to the concept, meaning, and nature of actual sound waves. This free workshop will take place on the trail at Black Kettle Farm in Essex where we will explore the reflections, refractions, and resonance of sound waves in a natural environment. Taylor will use native American wooden flutes and other instruments to demonstrate the behavior of sound in the open air along different sections of the trail, and will also explore exercises in deep listening in order to cultivate a heightened awareness of the world of sound and the sound of the world around us.
Preregistration is required, as space is limited. A parent/guardian must accompany children. To sign up, email Soundwaves at soundwaveswestport@gmail.com. Suggested donation $5.
The 2016 summer series begins July 7th at 7:30 and continues every Thursday night through August 11th on the hillside amphitheater overlooking Lake Champlain, known as the Ballard Park Performance Pavilion, located on Main Street. The rain site is across Main Street/Route 22 in the historic chapel of the Westport Heritage House.
I gotta say that is a pretty impressive lineup. Wish I could go!
