Hotel Saranac Celebrates 90th Year

hotel saranac lobby postcardHotel Saranac was built in 1927, and opened its doors on July 1 of that year. Now celebrating its 90th year, it remains the last of the grand hotels that once populated Saranac Lake.

When the hotel first opened, the first floor arcade was an open-air passageway that connected Academy and Main Streets and featured storefronts, restaurants and a landing to take hotel guests up to the second floor lobby. New Hampshire-based Roedel Companies bought Hotel Saranac in 2013 and will re-open the hotel this year after an extensive renovation.

The Hotel Saranac’s arcade is being renovated with an upscale restaurant (Campfire Adirondack Grill + Bar), a spa (Ampersand Salon and Spa) and a curated gift shop (Academy & Main).

Hotel Saranac is located at 100 Main Street, Saranac Lake. For more information, visit their website.

This entire “Production” has been way over-hyped
and their so-called “Pet Friendly” is reflective of their tendency towards the “snooty” and departure from the former Hotel’s management by Paul Smith’s when it was indeed a friendly place to visit, clean and very accommodating towards pet owners.

    As listed on their web-site:

    Service animals allowed: Yes
    Pets allowed: Yes
    Deposit: $50.00 (Non-Refundable)
    Maximum Weight: 70 lbs

Their pet policy, limiting a pet’s weight to under 70#, automatically excludes America’s #1 dog breed (Labrador Retriever) which typically weigh between 75 and 85#! It’s bad enough that they have to overcome years of horrible reviews in between Paul Smith’s management and current history they’re setting themselves up as a lodging destination for only the very wealthy, which will sharply reduce their clientele and probably contribute to failure as a viable business.

Contrary to their hype Saranac Lake is still the ADK’s and not downtown Manhattan!
