Steven Engelhart is set to give a lecture on Camp Santanoni, a historic great camp located in Newcomb, on Sunday, March 11 at 2 pm at the Albany Institute of History & Art.
Engelhart is the Director of Adirondack Architectural Heritage. This lecture will examine the influence of Japanese architecture on the construction of the camp, the Pruyn family of Albany, and the history of the use of Camp Santanoni. This lecture is open to the public and included with museum admission.
The Albany Institute library collections house the private papers of Robert Hewson Pruyn (1815-1882), the second Minister sent from the United States to Japan. Robert Pruyn and his wife Anna built Camp Santanoni.
The Albany Institute of History & Art is located at 125 Washington Avenue in Albany. Free parking is available in the museum’s lot at the corner of Elk and Dove Streets.
Admission rates are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students with ID, $6 for children aged 6-12, and free for children under 6. Albany Institute members are admitted for free. There is no charge to visit the café or museum shop.
