The Chase Lake Trails are located in the Shaker Mountain Wild Forest in the Southern Adirondacks.
Chase Lake Lean-to Trail has red trail markers and extends 2.6 miles from the trailhead to a lean-to on the north shore of the lake. The trail gently ascends 45 feet over the first 0.4 mile and then gently descends 170 feet over the next 0.75 mile. The remainder of the trail is mostly flat.
Chase Lake Spur Trail leaves the main trail approximately 1.7 miles from the trailhead and has yellow trail markers. The trail extends 0.8 miles to a designated tent site on the south shore of the lake. Both locations, if unoccupied, provide a great place to picnic and enjoy a scenic view of the lake and surrounding forested hills. Although it is a five mile round trip hike, the lack of any significant change in elevation and the scenery makes it a great family day trip or an overnight camping trip.
Trailhead: The trailhead parking area is located at the end of Pinnacle Road, which intersects with the Benson Bleecker Road (County Highway 125) 6.5 miles east of State Route 29A in Caroga Lake. (43.2069°N, 74.3909°W) The trailhead register is located at the start of the nearby Pinnacle Valley Trail on the left.
Featured hikes are recommended by DEC.
