On Saturday May 19th over 150 youth rowers are set to gather at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum for the annual Spring Wave, a regional youth open-water rowing competition.
Youth rowers from schools in Maine, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut will row a series of three heats in thirty-two and twenty-five foot rowing boats which were built in LCMMs boat shop by regional High School students.
Each year, for the past 19 years, area students have built a boat with the help of LCMM staff and volunteers. This year, students from the Hannaford Career Center’s Diversified Occupations Program and Middlebury High School built the 32-foot pilot gig Frank Beckett.
Saturday’s races will start at 9 am and should be completed by 1:30 pm followed by an awards ceremony.
A Frank Beckett launch event has been scheduled for 11 am, May 22nd. Students will give presentations, followed by a parade to the launch. Both events are free and open to the public.
