Champlain Youth Rowers; Frank Beckett Joins Longboat Fleet

spring wave rowing eventOn Saturday May 19th over 150 youth rowers are set to gather at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum for the annual Spring Wave, a regional youth open-water rowing competition.

Youth rowers from schools in Maine, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut will row a series of three heats in thirty-two and twenty-five foot rowing boats which were built in LCMMs boat shop by regional High School students.

Each year, for the past 19 years, area students have built a boat with the help of LCMM staff and volunteers. This year, students from the Hannaford Career Center’s Diversified Occupations Program and Middlebury High School built the 32-foot pilot gig Frank Beckett.

Saturday’s races will start at 9 am and should be completed by 1:30 pm followed by an awards ceremony.

A Frank Beckett launch event has been scheduled for 11 am, May 22nd. Students will give presentations, followed by a parade to the launch. Both events are free and open to the public.
