Adirondack Explorer Publishes Outings Guide

The Adirondack Explorer recently published a special edition of its Annual Outings Guide in commemoration of the magazine’s twentieth anniversary.

The 2018 guide is larger than previous outings guides, with a more durable cover to ensure that it will last as a resource for years to come.

One hundred pages long, the Annual Outings Guide reprints thirty-one stories about outdoor adventures that appeared in the Explorer over the past decade—hikes, paddles, ski tours, slide scrambles, rock climbs, biking, and whitewater rafting.

The authors include Lisa Ballard, Jack Ballard, Nancie Battaglia, Susan Bibeau, Mark Bowie, Ethan Rouen, Alan Wechsler, Stephen Williams, and Tom Woodman as well as yours truly.

The cover photo was taken by Lisa Godrey on Grace Peak. Other photographers whose work appears in the guide include Nancie Battaglia, Carl Heilman II, Mark Bowie, Nancy Ford, Lori Van Buren, Barry Lobdell, Patrick Dodson, Seth Jones, Susan Bibeau, and Mike Lynch.

The guide can be purchased in a number of Adirondack stores, including Old Forge Hardware; the Book Nook, Community Store, and Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake; Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid; and the Mountaineer in Keene Valley.

It also can be purchased on the Explorer website. The cost is just $5.

John Pitarresi, a longtime outdoors writer, reviewed the guide in his column in the Utica Observer-Dispatch last weekend. Click here to read the column.
