Labor Day Events in Old Forge

Old Forge fireworksOld Forge is set to celebrate Labor Day on Sunday, September 2nd with the running of a duck derby, a free concert on the lakefront, a car raffle, and fireworks.

The star of Sunday’s line-up is the Central Adirondack Association (CAA) raffle, which features a new 2018 Ford Mustang as grand prize, and 10 cash prizes, from $10,000 to $500. Only 999 tickets are being sold.

The ducky derby is the only fund raiser for the Central Adirondack Partnership for the 21st Century (CAP-21), a non-profit organization serving Adirondack communities. The derby offers popular prizes ranging such as overnight packages, kayaks, dinners, and Broadway show tickets. CAP-21 has again partnered with OddsOn Promotions, offering a chance to win $100,000. The race day begins at 9 am Sunday at the Old Forge Visitor Information Center and Adirondack Bank. The rubber ducks will launch from the Old Forge Dam at noon. Since 2001, CAP-21 has facilitated $11 million in grant funding for communities and businesses in Forestport, Otter Lake, Thendara, Old Forge, Inlet, Indian Lake and Long Lake.

The evening festivities at the Old Forge Lakefront Park start at 7 pm, with live entertainment by The Paul Case Band. The band plays a mixture of rock, reggae, blues and folk music. The concert and following fireworks are sponsored by the CAA. Prior to the fireworks show, the winners will be drawn for the CAA Annual Car Raffle. The raffle is the primary fund raiser for the Central Adirondack Association, and provides support for CAA-sponsored community events.

Labor Day Weekend also is the last chance to visit Enchanted Forest Water Safari before it closes for the season. Adirondack Scenic Railroad will be in operation and the McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift ride will be operating all weekend, including Monday, and will continue its fall schedule through Columbus Day. VIEW Arts and the Strand Theatre provide entertainment no matter what the weather.
