The Plattsburgh Gospel Choir is set to perform an evening concert, followed by a workshop for all singers, on Saturday, October 27th at the Saranac Lake First United Methodist Church.
The workshop with 2 master classes offered by the choir, runs from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. All singers are invited – and no music reading is needed. This class is free and open to the public, attendees are encouraged to bring a dish for the potluck dinner.
The free evening concert will take place from 6:30 to 8 pm, and will feature both the Gospel Choir and workshop participants. Donations will be accepted for Samaritan House in Saranac Lake which helps provide transitional housing and support services for homeless people.
The Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir (PSGC) was organized by students in 1991. They average 25 performances annually throughout the region, and have performed nationally and internationally in Washington DC, Toronto and Tokyo, among others. The choir has appeared on several TV shows including the WORD Network and Mountain Lake PBS. In 2014, they placed second in the Gospel Choir Competition held at the University of Binghamton. They have released seven CDs and two DVDs. Since 1991, Dexter Criss has served as the choir’s pianist, choir director and now artistic director. They have also performed in Saranac Lake for First Night.
