Though many Adirondack historical societies and museums host winter lectures, three of my favorite Cabin Fever series of lectures are at Fort Ticonderoga, the Adirondack Experience (formerly the Adirondack Museum), and the Lake Placid Historical Society.

Fort Ticonderoga’s Fort Fever Series meet about once a month from January through April. Topics this winter will celebrate Black History Month, Women’s History Month, the Steam Age, and more by connecting each topic with Fort Ticonderoga’s collections and exhibits. All lectures are $10 for non-members, free for members and start at 2 pm at the Mars Education Center.

Adirondack Experience Cabin Fever events provide a wide set of topics, includind 50 Years with Adirondack Life magazine’s Our Towns, Flying Squirrels, and the art of Edna West Teall. Their bi-monthly lectures also bring naturalist Ed Kanze to speak about his Backyard Biological Survey, as well as lectures highlighting a Second World War vet’s return to the Adirondacks, and more. All lectures are in the ADKX auditorium starting at 1:30 pm. The cost of $5 for non-members.

The Lake Placid Historical Society brings their lectures to downtown Lake Placid. Each event is at a different location, encouraging patrons to gather for dinner or a cocktail beforehand. These events are all free and a visit from artist and Six Nations Indian Museum’s David Fadden, as well as the Women’s Suffrage Movement in the Adirondacks.
