The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is closing the Lake Placid Boat Launch Site on Mirror Lake Drive on April 8, 2019, to replace the deteriorating bulkhead.
The boat launch and the parking lot will be closed to the public while the work is undertaken. The bulkhead is used to load barges with heavy equipment and materials for transport to water-accessible homes and camps on the lake.
The worked is expected to be finished and the boat launch reopened to boaters by Memorial Day weekend. However, heavy equipment will be not be allowed on the new bulkhead until late June. This will allow the concrete to cure enough to hold heavy equipment without causing damage.
