Adirondack Lakes Summer Theatre Festival

macbethThe Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts has announced community auditions for the Adirondack Lakes Summer Theatre Festival. As part of the Arts Center’s mission, the Adirondack Lakes Summer Theatre Festival allows community actors to work alongside professional actors, while bringing performances to multiple venues throughout the Adirondack Park.

This summer, the Arts Center’s productions are Macbeth directed by Jayson Grigsby, Leader of the Pack: The Ellie Greenwich Musical directed by Gwen Tracy, and Proof directed by Jordan Hornstein. Proof has been cast, but auditions will be held for Macbeth and Leader of the Pack on June 4th, 6th, and 7th.

Macbeth – A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death.

Leader of the Pack: The Ellie Greenwich Musical – Based on an original concept by Melanie Mintzwith, this jukebox musical (created before the term was coined) celebrates the life and times of the Brooklyn-born Greenwich, whose doo-wop sounds skyrocketed to the top of the pop charts in the early to mid-1960s. Author Anne Beatts’ “liner notes” serve as the book that links the songs and provides a look into the songwriter’s professional triumphs and personal misfortunes.

The Arts Center has hired talent from both NYC and SUNY Plattsburgh, and are looking for community actors to fill additional roles in both productions. Rehearsals will start in mid-June. Macbeth will tour the Adirondack Park from July 19th to July 28th, and Leader of the Pack from August 1st through August 6th. Anyone ages 15 and up are welcome to audition.

Auditions will be held at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts on Tuesday, June 4th from 3 to 5 pm, Thursday, June 6th from 6 to 8 pm, and Friday, June 7th from 6 to 8 pm. If you are auditioning for the musical, be prepared to sing a verse and chorus from either “Be My Baby” or “Baby, I Love You” as performed by the Ronettes. Auditions for both Shakespeare and the musical will require a cold reading from the script. Prepared monologues are welcome, but not required.

The Adirondack Lakes Summer Theatre Festival is sponsored in part by NYSCA and Dave Myers in memory of Anne Vaccaro. Contact Gwen Tracy, Artistic Director, with any questions at gwen@adirondackarts.org or call (518) 352-7715.
