music with a messageAn all-day festival of music and art for young people has been set for Saturday, May 18th at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall in Essex.

The “Music with a Message Children’s Music Festival” focuses on the songs of the late folksinger Pete Seeger, whose 100th birthday is being celebrated around the world in May.

The Music with a Message Festival is free and open to all youth ages 7-17. It runs from 9 am to 4 pm. Directed by award-winning music educator Jennifer Moore, the festival features group singing workshops with Adirondack folksinger Dan Berggren, informal demonstrations by Young Tradition Vermont, an “instrument petting zoo,” an art project, an exhibit of works by students in the Visual Arts program at Willsboro School, and more.

At 4 pm a community concert by festival participants with the Adirondack Children’s Community Chorus and Dan Berggren will be presented.

The festival will be held at the Whallonsburg Grange, 1610 NYS Route 22 in Essex, NY (corner of Whallons Bay Road). Registration information is available online by calling (518) 963-7777.
