Bald Mountain (2,350 Feet) is located in the 16,028-acre Fulton Chain Wild Forest, which includes about 20 miles of marked foot trails.
This very popular short hike leads to a long ridge with views and the Rondaxe Fire Tower, which has been restored and can be climbed.
The trail ascends about 500 feet in just under a mile to summit of Bald Mountain from the trailhead on Rondaxe Road, off Route 28 at Fourth Lake in the Fulton Chain of Lakes. The start of the trail is an easy walk in the woods, but soon turns steep up a widely eroded trail onto the ridge with several viewpoints. The mostly bedrock trail follows the top of the ridge with minor ups and downs.
The Rondaxe Fire Tower has been restored and can be climbed for the best views.
There are spectacular views of the Fulton Chain of Lakes and Moose River Plains Complex from the rocky outcrop and fire tower at the summit.
Bald Mountain Parking Area: Along Rondaxe Road, east of the hamlet of Old Forge (43.745616°N, 74.899619°W).
