Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake is hosting Community Day brunch this Sunday, June 16, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The trails will be open to the public for hiking, with tours of the property and the historic buildings available from 10 am to 4 pm.
Built in 1897 on 1,526 acres of remote Adirondack wilderness by William West Durant, Great Camp Sagamore was a wilderness retreat for the Alfred Vanderbilt family for half a century. It is now a National Historic Landmark managed by a non-profit educational institution in order to inspire others to help protect the environment, history, and culture of the Adirondacks.
The newly refurbished Dining Hall will be available for brunch for visitors. A self-guided three-mile walk around Sagamore Lake on the Lake Trail can be taken at leisure using “The Hidden History of the Lake Trail” activity guide. Copies are available at the Sagamore Store, which is the admissions gateway to the Camp.
Self-guided historic and Lake Trail tours are from 10 am to 4 pm.
Brunch is $15 per person, and $10 for children under 12. Rolling seating in the dining Hall is from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Reservations are requested and can be made online, or by calling (315) 354-5311 x1023.
