Doug Tallamy, noted conservationist and author of Bringing Nature Home is set to present a lecture and slide show on Monday, July 22nd from 6 to 8 pm at Lake Placid Center for the Arts, 17 Algonquin Drive in Lake Placid.

Tallamy’s talk “Restoring Nature’s Relationships” focuses on how growing native plants in our yards, gardens, and local green spaces provides an opportunity — and a responsibility — to play a role in sustaining biodiversity.

Tallamy is a noted entomologist, native plant advocate, and professor in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware. He has authored 95 research publications and has taught insect related courses for 39 years. His book Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens was awarded the 2008 Silver Medal by the Garden Writers’ Association. He also co-authored The Living Landscape, with Rick Darke in 2014, and will publish his latest book, Nature’s Best Hope, in February 2020. Chief among Tallamy’s research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities.

This event is hosted by the Lake Placid Land Conservancy (LPLC). LPLC is asking for small donation to help offset the cost of the event. Tickets can be purchased online.
