Saranac Lake’s Street Fest Set For Saturday

saranac lake street festThe first-ever Saranac Lake Street Fest has been set for Saturday, July 20th, from 2 to 9 pm. Main Street will be closed from Berkeley Green to the Saranac Lake Free Library to make room for vendors, stilt walkers, buskers, artists, poetry for passerby by, a tarot card reader, a magician and more. Street Fest is free and open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and participation in various activities will be encouraged throughout the day, including three contests: most Street Fest-iest costume, loon calling and bubble gum blowing.

Street Fest attendees will find vendors lining the street and two main performance areas — the Main Stage at Berkeley Green and Busker Borough at Vest Pocket Park. There will also be a Circus Tent in the street in front of the library, happenings on the library lawn, the Artists Alley participatory art area, and surprises in the street throughout the day.

The Circus Tent will give children a chance to try stilt walking from 2 to 4:30 pm. At 4:40 pm, everyone is invited to join the circus parade as it makes its way to the Berkeley Green stage, where actors from Pendragon Theatre will perform a couple of songs from Mary Poppins Jr, which is showing at the theater this summer. After the singalong, magician and mentalist Gary Ferrar will take the stage for an hour-long magic show.

Four local favorite bands will perform on the Berkeley Green Main Stage: Crackin’ Foxy, Grass Company, Crowfeather and The Biscuit Rollers. Nate Pultorak will also delight the crowd with his pop hits on a hammer dulcimer performance.

Buskers will play all day in Vest Pocket Park’s Busker Borough. Nearby, on the library lawn, the Adirondack Center for Writing will have story telling for kids. There will also be yoga demonstrations, a chance to meet Beethoven the Moose and tarot card readings.

The driveway beside the library, Artists Alley, will come alive with various participatory art projects, including paint a rock, a community mural and a paper pulp throw courtesy of BluSeed Studios.

For those who want to see the action from above, the Hotel Saranac will have an outdoor bar on their second-floor pavilion.

Street Fest’s sponsors include the town of Harrietstown, the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Cloudsplitter Foundation, Adirondack Health and Veterans Hemp Market.
