The fall Lyceum lecture series at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall is set to kick off on Tuesday, September 24th.

The theme of this season is “Hidden in Plain Sight,” and the five lectures will examine well-known things from unusual angles and look at objects and ideas that have been hidden from plain view.

The Lyceum takes place on Tuesdays at 7:30pm at the Grange. The full schedule includes:

September 24, The Hidden History of World War II, 1931-1953, with UVM History professor and author Andy Buchanan discussing the continued impact of the war on global conflicts today.

October 1, Behind a Wall: Uncovering the Lone Rock Point Mural, with Essex art conservator Emily Phillips, who is restoring the recently discovered WPA mural at the University of Vermont.

October 8, Under Our Feet: The Secret World of Microbes, presented by Scott Chimileski, Biology professor at Paul Smith’s College and renowned photographer of microbes.

October 15, Beneath the Surface: Salmon in the Boquet River and Lake Champlain, with Andrew Milliken of the Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Office, discussing the return of Atlantic salmon to the river with the removal of the Willsboro dam.

October 22, Finding Grace: Science and Faith in a Time of Climate Change, a presentation by author Katharine Preston on her new book, Field With a View.
