Feeling Long Lakey Polar Plunge

Long Lake Polar PlungeThe Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department is set to host the 7th Annual Feeling Long Lakey Polar Plunge on Saturday, December 28, at 1 pm, at the Long Lake Town Beach, 1258 Main Street, Long Lake.

In 2019 this event benefits the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The mission of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay. St. Jude’s supports treatment, travel, housing, and food for families.

Plunger registration is required and will take place at the Adirondack Hotel starting at 11 am with a mandatory blood pressure check by the Long Lake Rescue Squad. Individuals and teams must donate a minimum of $25 to plunge. Fundraising packets are available online. Plungers must submit completed fundraising packets and registration to participate. The overall event fundraising goal for 2019 is $2500. Plungers are encouraged to download the fundraising form in advance and collect donations to benefit St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.

The Long Lake Fire Department will be on scene to cut the ice and provide safety for the plungers. Judges will evaluate participants themes, costumes and frivolous plunge techniques. Prizes will be presented at the Adirondack Hotel immediately following the plunge.

There will be a warming bus on site for plungers pre-plunge. Each team/or individual plunges one group at a time. Plungers should bring towels, water shoes and dry clothes. Changing will be available at the Long Lake Public Restrooms.

Prizes will be awarded for Best Team Theme, Best Individual Plunge, Best in Show, Most Funds Raised by a Team, and Most Funds Raised by an Individual.

Participants must be 16 and over to participate. Plungers under 18 must have parent or guardian permission. More information is available online, or by calling (518) 624-3077.
