Featured Area: Paul Smith’s VIC

Paul Smiths College Visitor Interpretive Center Cross-Country Ski TrailsPaul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center provides visitors with 25 miles of trails, including six miles of interpretive trails on their 3,000-acre property.

The trail system weaves through diverse ecosystems allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature. The trail system traverses every habitat type found in the Adirondack Park (with the exception of alpine vegetation) and includes extensive boardwalks through wetland ecosystems.

Many of the trails are surfaced for easy walking and many have trail-side signs explaining natural and man-made features of the landscape. The interconnected trails are well marked, and users can pick up a map at the visitor center before heading out.

Beginning November 30th, when cross -country ski trail grooming begins, users must purchase a pass to use the trail system.

The VIC is located at 8023 NY-30, Paul Smiths, NY 12970.

Featured hikes are recommended by DEC.

A beautiful place – especially in winter. But I must admit, since trail fees were instituted, my visitation has dropped markedly. It would be nice for older residents if fees were waived for people over 60 or 70 or 80. Many retirees have to be very careful with their limited discretionary funds. For those with deeper pockets, I assume donations will gladly be accepted.
