Long Lake Winter Carnival 2020

Cardboard Sled Race by James L SwedbergThe Long Lake Winter Carnival will take place Saturday, January 18th, at Mt. Sabattis Recreation Center in Long Lake, located at 6 Pavilion Way off of Deerland Road, NYS Route 30.

Events begin at noon with a bonfire, snowmobile parade, and coronation of the King and Queen. The Cardboard Sled Races start at 1 pm with prizes awarded for speed and overall award for Best Decoration. Sleds can be made with cardboard, paint, wax and tape. Racing categories are for individuals and for teams. The ice skating rink and sledding hill will be open throughout the day.

Other events throughout the day include a Wackiest Hat Contest, Town-Wide Photo, Kids Balloon Chase, Goalie’s Day Off, Men’s Feats of Strength, the Ladies Frying Pan Toss, and fireworks at 6:30 pm. All events are free.

The Ice Farm, featuring the talents of award-winning ice sculptor Stan Kolonko, will be on site carving ice scupltures all day long. Businesses or organizations interested in sponsoring an ice carving or race prizes are asked to contact the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Office at (518) 624-3077. Cash prizes provided by the Long Lake Fire Department, Long Lake Moonlighter’s Snowmobile Club and the Town of Long Lake.

In addition to the traditional events slated for the day, The Town of Long Lake will be hosting The Chazen Company at Mt. Sabattis. Chazen is in the process of creating a Comprehensive Plan; a community driven plan to articulate residents’ vision for the future and serve and as the Town’s official policy document. Planners from The Chazen Companies will be in attendance and seeking input at the Long Lake Winter Carnival on January 18th (from noon to 2 pm). They will be taking comments from residents, distributing surveys, and providing information about the planning process.

The Long Lake Fire Department will provide complimentary hot food, hot chocolate, popcorn and snacks. This event happens snow, rain or shine.

12 pm Winter Carnival Kick off, Ice Sculpture Installation Begins, Registration opens and free lunch served by the Long Lake Fire Department
12:15 pm Snowmobile Parade – conditions permitting
12:30 pm Coronation of Moonlighter’s King and Queen
12:45 pm Wackiest Hat Competition
1 pm Cardboard Sled Races
1:45 pm Town Wide Photo
2 pm Balloon Chase for Kids 9 and under
2:30 pm One Shot Hockey aka Goalie’s Day Off
3 pm Ladies Frying Pan Toss
3:45 pm Men Feats of Strength
6:30 pm Fireworks

Parking available in the lower parking lot, along South Hill Road, Owls Head Lane and at the Post Office after 12 pm. There will be free shuttle service running from 6 pm to 2 am to and from the event location and pickups throughout town. Call (518) 524-3106 for a ride. Open to the public. Snowmobiles are welcome.

    Always an outstanding event! Love the Cardboard Sled races and the fireworks and the free transportation all around town after hours! Long Lake is a great little Adirondack town!
