Jay O’Hern’s New Book Tackles Lumber Cruising

Adirondack Timber Cruising by William J O'HernProlific Adirondack researcher and writer William J. O’Hern’s new book Adirondack Timber Cruising takes the reader on a journey through the development of timber cruising, logging, and forestry and our relationship to forests.

O’Hern’s book overflows with compelling stories about the everyday — but by no means ordinary — people who lived and worked in the timber woods before chainsaws and trucks, and illustrates the changes wrought by mechanization.

Memories of both famous and nameless loggers and others who worked in the lumber camps and towns populate the pages. It includes hundreds of vintage black and white photographs accompanying the stories.

Adirondack Timber Cruising is available online at www.adirondack-books.com and www.adkwilds.com; at bookstores or by calling North Country Books at 1-800-342-7409.
