The Annual Long Lake Hors D’Oeuvres Tour, part of the Town of Long Lake’s Winter Wonderland Week, took place on Friday, February 21st.
Guests of the tour were invited to ride the Long Lake’s community “Little Bus” and visit the local restaurants to vote for their favorite appetizer.
Guests hailed from Columbia County, NY, Plattsburgh, Tupper Lake, Long Lake and Albany and other locales. The participating restaurants included: The Adirondack Hotel, the Long Lake Diner/Owl’s Head Pub and the Long View Lodge.
With a good turnout, Long Lake looked to neighboring Newcomb where Supervisor Robin DeLoria provided their ten-passenger vehicle for the event.
Guests descended upon the venues one at a time, moving about the community to try three appetizers at each location. Guests had a voting card to review and select their favorite at each venue. The judging considered each individual appetizer with overall impression, presentation, uniqueness, combination of flavors, pleasing to the palate and originality.
The Long View Lodge served a Chicken Pesto Puff Pastry, a Scallop Seafood Crostini and Bacon wrapped Meatloaf over Mashed Potatoes. The overall winner for the Long View Lodge was the Chicken Pesto Puff Pastry.
The Adirondack Hotel served a Venison Slider, Smoked Duck with Brie and Smoked Salmon. The historic hotel took top prizes for their Smoked Duck with Brie.
The Long Lake Diner/Owls Head Pub served each dish individually with a sorbet palate cleanser offered between each selection. Dishes included Chicken Sausage Chili cup in a hand-molded tortilla, Bacon Bourbon BBQ, Battered and Breaded Pork Ribs and Fried Green Tomatoes. The Chili Cup took top honors.
The next foodie involved event in Long Lake will be in May during the Eat ADK Restaurant Week, set for April 30th – May 7th. More information will be available online.
