The Whallonsburg Grange Lyceum is set to continue their spring series “Hidden in Plain Sight” with the presentation “Port Henry: Hollywood of the East” on Tuesday, March 10th.

Long before movies were ever produced in Hollywood, some were made in the Adirondacks. During the Silent Film era of the early-1900s, films including The Perils of Pauline and Uncle Tom’s Cabin were shot in the region. By the 1920s Port Henry was a major player in the motion picture industry. Mountain Lakes PBS producer Derek Muirden will talk about this era of film production and show a short film.

The Grange’s “Hidden in Plain Sight” series looks at well-known things from unusual angles and examines objects and ideas that are hidden from plain view.

“Port Henry: Hollywood of the East” will begin at 7:30 pm. There is a $5 suggested donation; free for students. The Whallonsburg Grange Hall is located at 1610 NYS Route 22, in Essex. More information is available on their website.
