In case you missed last week’s Adirondack Park Agency meeting, here are a few highlights.
The APA is collecting public comments on the Hinckley Day Use Area unit management plan proposed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Specifically, the APA will look at how this plan meshes with the Adirondack State Park Master Plan. DEC is proposing a revamp of the area, including new multi-use trails, additional camping opportunities and a pavilion at Price’s Point. Click here for more info, including how to comment.
The APA also approved a new Verizon Wireless cell tower in Hamilton County and a North Elba housing development. Some APA board members, during those discussions, talked again about revisiting the APA’s tower policy. Read more on that here.
On another note, we have an update to an Adirondacks investigation. We’ve found out who painted those orange blazes on the Cascade Mountain trail in 2019, and why they did it, through our answered freedom of information law request and some follow-up reporting. I’ve checked in on other violations like this one, but sometimes it takes a while to get the records and to find out what the final outcome was. The DEC just settled the matter administratively earlier this month. Read more.
