
Ice out time is approaching! Pick the correct ice-out date on Mirror Lake in Lake Placid and you’ll be entered to win some Explorer swag.

Ice out on Mirror Lake is documented by the Ausable River Association, and we’ll be using its data for the official ice-out date

April 28 Ice Out. Appropriately and significantly the day in the year 1253 that Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō was officially declared Mantra of the Lotus Sutra. Chanting was used for the reduction of pain and suffering and enligtenment. Ice out suggests that metaphor.

I always look for ice-out through the Stillwater Hotel webcam, which updates every 5 minutes, and the Wanakena Ranger School webcam which is live. The ice is out at the ranger school today, 03 April. It usually does not go out much before May 01.
