AdkAction is hosting a three-day celebration of arts and artists from July 23-25. The festival will fan out across Keeseville, with several local organizations and businesses holding visual and performing arts events.
To help attendees explore all that the festival offers, AdkAction created a free Arts Passport that will be available at the welcome tent on Front Street. Festival-goers can collect stamps at each activity, then turn in their passport to be entered in a grand prize drawing. A VIP ticket is also available for those who want to support the event, with perks including a tote bag, entry into a wine and cheese reception and plein air brunch, extra tickets for the prize drawing, and early admission to the Art Show & Sale.
Activities happening during the festival include:
Art Shows & Demonstrations
Continuing the plein air tradition this year, 40 artists will paint Keeseville’s historic architecture, rolling hills, charming farms, waterfalls, chasms, and shores in the days leading up to the Festival. Community members will enjoy seeing familiar sights from their own backyards through the eyes of fine artists. Paintings will be on display and available for purchase throughout the festival. Visit the Art Show and Sale at 1719 Block Gallery on Front Street. Meet the artists by attending a Special Preview Party on Friday or Plein Air Brunch on Saturday.
Keeseville Library’s annual art show will run throughout the festival. Each piece in the show is submitted by local artists, and will include paintings, photography, needle felting, quilting, wood working, and pottery.
Watch a work of art take shape at Ausable Brewing Company, where local artist Dennis Smyth will conduct a live painting demonstration on Saturday afternoon.
Mural
AdkAction is collaborating with Outside Art: Plattsburgh Public Art Project to paint a permanent mural on the side of Adirondack Hardware. All are welcome to stop by to see how it’s progressing. Show your Arts Passport to help paint during community painting times.
Youth Art
Kids can get creative with some free art activities at AdkAction’s festival welcome tent on Front Street. Entries from a youth art contest for K-12 students in the area will also be on display.
Architecture
Learn why artists love painting the structures of Keeseville by taking a guided walking tour with Adirondack Architectural Heritage, or take their self-guided tour of landmarks in the hamlet.
Performing Arts
Artistry Community Theatre is performing ‘Into the Woods’ at the Keeseville Elks Lodge, Mace Chasm Farm is holding a country music barn show and dance, and live music will be performed at Keeseville’s Riverfront Park and at Highlands Vineyard.
Visitors to the festival can also explore the area to enjoy food, beer, and wine from local farms, and get to know a charming lakeside community at the foothills of the Adirondack mountains. Love to see a beautiful mural on a large outdoor wall.
I hope they can do it. But it is a rough, brick/block wall that may need to be surfaced to get a good result. But it probably can’t look worse!
