The next governor

kathy hochul

Last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave himself and New Yorkers two weeks notice following a damning report by private investigators that found he had sexually harassed multiple women for years. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will take over soon and be the state’s first female governor.

What does a Hochul administration look like for the Adirondacks? I talked to a few different groups here in the park to find out their thoughts. And with little time left in office, Cuomo has plenty of loose ends to tie in the park. If he doesn’t, Hochul will have some work to do including appointing members to a road salt task force and filling some Adirondack Park Agency vacancies. You can read more about all of that here. Since that story, we also learned that Hochul plans to run for governor in the next gubernatorial election, so it’s possible she could stick around for a while.

We’ve had lots of other news to share in the Adirondacks, including the new High Peaks hiker shuttle set to kick off Aug. 21. Let us know if you take the shuttle and what you think.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul as governer, first thing she does is get lt. governer from NYC…sounds just like cuomo, NYC first over the rest of NYS. very doubtful there will be anything but favortism to NYC, higher property taxes, more punishing of law abiding gun owners. It would be nice if i was wrong about her.

    > I’ve been thinking about this since after the initial big news that Cuomo gave up. Good riddance! My thoughts have been thus: That this was a political move (as they all are), and that it was pre-planned, this move to dismember Cuomo. They knew that a republican was fair game to possibly beat Cuomo in the next election, so…. what to do? He was fair game because of his stupid behavior, and they knew (especially our woman politicos) to push impeachment, and also they knew that with all of these women stepping forward with their (evidently) legitimate claims against him, that he would sink fast; so keep the fire going while things are really hot. Cuomo finally saw no way out, and so did those who knew Hochul would take over. Once Hochul was in, well….you know the rest!

All of those in the republican field as governor hopefuls got what they wanted…. Cuomo gone! But Hochul is in, and come election time next year she will be an incumbent! I cannot imagine her making a mess of things and so surely, as many incumbents are, she will be a shoo-in come the next election cycle. The Republicans are surely scratching their heads asking “Now what?” This is too good to be true! As the old adage always goes, “Watch what you wish for.”
