Tracy Ormsbee’s report; “Policies needed to secure access for all”, in Adk. Explorer, 5/13/22, boils down our Adirondack dilemma to its three most basic parts: inclusivity, safety of users, and protection of a fragile environment.

With solutions to these three thorny issues in mind, it seems to me that the template for all of us who love this place is to come together, put aside our differences and prejudices, and seek consensus on long term solutions based on solid, fact-based reasoning. This will be no easy task, but if we do it, we will give future generations their best chance for sustaining this Adirondack treasure .

Such compromise, based on mutual respect rather than discrimination, to reach achievable results is what “community” building is all about, Sadly, it seems to be in short supply these days both in the Adirondacks, and in the rest of the nation….
