Did anybody notice the interesting article about zoning that Melissa managed to sneak in here? Something that’s worthy of debate. Throwing out land-use planning Parkwide would be madness, but, for example, would villages benefit from mixed-use development and less APA stipulations on things like parking space, etc.? My two cents: Any plan to eliminate zoning in Aspenized villages (e.g., Lake Placid, Saranac Lake) will backfire without serious intervention in other areas — e.g., STR caps, prioritizing domestic control of the local tourism industry, and economic diversification away from tourism.
