    Today’s NYT column by David French, in response to America’s conversation about a “national divorce”, is well worth a look by readers of our Adirondack-north country community.

    For most of my life, I have tried to imagine those years following America’s Civil War, when my mother’s grandmother and her grandmother’s sister would come together at family gatherings. Their respective husbands had both been soldiers on opposite sides during that terrible conflict. Somehow, with tact and tolerance, they made it work and family unity and good will prevailed.

    I wonder if there isn’t a wider lesson there for us all of us?
