The Adirondack Foundation is currently offering an array of scholarship opportunities, including The Plante Scholarship for medical students,  a Charles B. Decker Memorial Scholarship Fund opportunity for aspiring and working journalists, and The Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region scholarship for area schools, municipalities, nonprofit, and community organizations. See below to find out more information about each scholarship/grant opportunity.

Lake Placid, NY — The Dr. U.R. Plante Medical Scholarship program at Adirondack Foundation is accepting applications now through May 15.

The Plante Scholarship at Adirondack Foundation is awarded annually to medical students who have resided in the Adirondack Park — or in St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, Essex or Hamilton counties — for a minimum of two years. Successful candidates must be willing to return to one of these locations, a rural community elsewhere in the U.S. or an area where there is a shortage of doctors.

Interested applicants must be accepted to, or currently enrolled in, an MD or DO program. Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded annually.

Applications must be submitted through Adirondack Foundation’s Online Grants Manager. More information can be found at adirondackfoundation.org/granting/apply-scholarship/plante-medical-scholarship.

Saranac Lake, NY— The Charles B. Decker Memorial Scholarship Fund at Adirondack Foundation is currently accepting applications from aspiring and working journalists.

The scholarship fund — founded in memory of Charles B. Decker — was established in 1991 to provide financial assistance to college and graduate students from Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake or Lake Placid who are attending a college or university full time to pursue a career in journalism. Decker was an enthusiastic journalist from Saranac Lake, who was the assistant managing editor of the Watertown Daily Times when he passed away at the young age of 34.

The Decker Fund also provides support to working journalists on special assignments and to internship programs. Criteria for applicants includes:

  • Financial need, to a degree, suggesting that the intended education, project or internship cannot be undertaken without assistance.

  • A tangible demonstration of dedication to journalism, such as special journalism courses, articles, internships or special assignment opportunities for working journalists.

  • A history of school grades and other previous accomplishments that demonstrate the candidate’s ability to handle college or graduate work or to carry out the project outlined.

The deadline to apply is May 15. Interested candidates must submit a request for an application via email. To learn more and request an application, visit adirondackfoundation.org/granting/apply-scholarship/decker-memorial-scholarship.
