    The article by Louis Curth on the Asbestos Adirondack forest is well stated. A few added comments:
    1. In spite of increased attention to wildfire and the 1950 blowdown there was a devastating wildfire in the Cold River area in 1952. This was a very remote area at the time with no good vehicular access.
    2. Along with the need for a larger and different Ranger Force we need better access to remote areas to deal with the threat of increased wildfire due to climate change, and the greatly increased number of recreationists expected over the coming years.
