Sure hate to see that. Proof that pinheads DO exist!

Dick, were you able to repair it? If not, I can run out with tools and the original stain. I think I could make it look like it was when it left Boces.

    • Bob, I just pulled out of camp yesterday & got home last night. Those wounds were really ugly & deep. In my assessment they were far too deeply hacked out of there- likely with some kind of hatchet or large knife & a hammer of some sort. It was way beyond normal bad. The remaining wood around the letters had already begun turning black, was waterlogged, and deterioration/rot had begun setting in. So, I did the best thing I could within my skill set. I carefully chipped out the whole gouged area with wood chisels, planed & sanded it down smooth, then sprayed it with an eyeball color matched (pretty darn close, anyways) exterior wood preservative. Took me nearly three hours, but I think, pray & hope that in the end, the results made things significantly better, & not worse. At least, everyone who has seen both so far has concurred. I’ll follow up with more details & photos to Melissa here in my follow-on piece (yet to be written), “Cedar Log Surgery”. Right this minute though, I need sleep, a shower, and a full feeding tube meal. Gettin’ old, I guess. Two full weeks is a long haul in camp. I’ve been living on half meals & rocket fuel coffee shots for the last three days. I’m exhausted.

Nicely done repair! All that space needs now is a commemorative plaque dedicated to you for your efforts in preservation!

outrageous…hopefully there are some detectives out there to catch these obviously ignorant imbeciles!
I feel for you and your family for having to have been exposed to this atrocity!
