TIPS FOR REALIZING YOUR PASSION PROJECT

Julie Canepa, Plattsburgh resident and award winning screenwriter and author, will give a talk called, “From Concept to Finished Product: Tips for Realizing Your Passion Project.” Canepa’s talk is Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at BluSeed Studios, sponsored by Saranac Lake ArtWorks.

Julie Canepa headshotThis event is free and open to the public, with thanks to the New York State Council on the Arts Visiting Artist grant. Canepa is the author of the Regional Emmy® Award winning documentary Return to Auschwitz: The Survival of Vladimir Munk. The documentary was filmed in 2020 when Julie accompanied Czech Holocaust survivor Vladimir Munk to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in Oświęcim, Poland. The film was picked up for broadcast by over 300 PBS stations nationwide.

Julie Canepa says, “From the initial spark of inspiration to the final creation, every artistic endeavor, be it art, music, literature, or film, follows a unique path. There are no hard and fast rules. There are no roadmaps. But there is wisdom to be shared by people who have achieved their goals. As a writer, I have relied on books like The Art of Memoir by Mary Carr, Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg and Still Writing by Dani Shapiro. I have been so grateful to have their books by my side to keep me sane, help me stay the course and remind me that doubt and dry spells can be normal. I don’t claim to have all the answers to guide you on your creative journey. I can’t unleash your creativity. Only you can do that. Have an idea you are passionate about? Read about how others did the thing you want to do. It’s inspiring and informative. Surround yourself with the right people. Be flexible. Leave time to let things percolate. Beware of, and banish, Imposter Syndrome. Finish. Be proud and move forward.”
