Desserts on a table

Two long-standing events are taking place in Old Forge this week, including the Old Forge Library’s annual Sweetheart Dessert Contest on Wednesday, Feb. 14 and View’s 17th annual Chili Bowl Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 17. See below for additional details about these events.

Sweetheart Dessert Contest

Entries will be accepted in four categories, including Child, Teen, Adult and Professional. Criteria used in judging will include creativity, presentation, and taste. Entries can be dropped off at the library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb.14. Chili Bowl Luncheon

The Chili Bowl Luncheon celebrates its 17th year at View Arts Center in Old Forge on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 12 to 3 p.m. The event includes over 350 handmade bowls available for purchase and chili from over a dozen area restaurants. Guests may choose from bowls ranging in price from $18 to $30. Everyone who purchases a bowl will be able to sample the available chilis and soups. Chili can also be purchased without a ceramic bowl for $10.

Chili and soups will be donated by several restaurants including: 16 Stone Brew Pub, The Adirondack League Club, The Back Door, DiOrio’s Supermarket, Feast and Festivities, KYAC, Little Fox, Ozzie’s, Slickers Adirondack Tavern, Stillwater Inn, and Walt’s Diner. View staff will also be making a variety of chilis, as well as Ms. Hazel’s mac and cheese.

Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” The winning restaurant will receive a chili pepper trophy. The restaurant owner can display the traveling trophy for the year and get their name engraved on a plaque before it goes back to View for next year’s Chili Bowl Luncheon.

Desserts will be made by volunteer bakers and are included with the purchase of chili. Non-perishable foods will be collected by View staff at the door to support the local community. All food collected will be donated to food pantries in Old Forge and Inlet.

View is located at 3273 State Route 28 in Old Forge.
