My choice for an interesting read would be NCPRs recent history item by Lucy Grindon about Oscar’s Smokehouse in Warrensburg.

For most readers, this might be just a lot of baloney (ha,ha), but for me, it brings back fond memories of Warrensburg and the southern Adirondacks back in the 1950s. Back then, my father was a frequent customer of the original Oscar, and they always had a lot to talk about. If my impatience got noticed, Oscar would hand me a raw hot dog or some bologna to munch on.

Leaving Oscar’s, we might also stop at the Blue Bird Bakery for some fresh bread and pastries, and then head on up Route 9 (no Northway back then) to my familiar haunts around Loon Lake, Riparius, Pottersville and Chestertown.

I never did know what they talked so much about , but the baloney sure tasted good!
