Saranac Lake, NY – The Saranac Lake Civic Center announces it will host a youth skating series starting on Monday, March 18 provided free of charge. The children’s series, “March Madness,” begins Monday, March 18 at the newly-remodeled facility and will be reserved for children ages 5-17 with consent from their caregiver.

The program is funded by a Franklin County Youth Bureau Funding Grant. The goal of the grant includes developing programs for youth in Franklin County.

The first session in the March Madness program is Monday, March 18 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. The next are on March 24, March 25, March 29, and April 1. The full schedule/times and downloadable participant form will be available on the Saranac Lake Civic Center website and Facebook page. The participant consent form, signed by a parent/guardian, will be required.

“Increasing access to ice time has been a core initiative for the local community since we re-opened,” said Saranac Lake Civic Center’s Marnie Crane said. “We are grateful to the Youth Bureau for providing funds for this program; it’s exciting to be able to offer a fun activity for our local youth.”

Teens, youngsters and athletes at all skill levels will be welcome to enjoy these skating sessions. As a physical activity, ice skating is directly tied to health and well-being, which helps create a positive relationship to one’s body, connectedness to the community (being social with other children) and helps build self-esteem / confidence.
