Fish for free June 29-30

Folks are encouraged to try fishing for the first time or take someone else fishing this weekend, June 29-30, when anyone aged 16 and older can fish the fresh waters of New York State, no license required. Note: Kids under 16 can always fish for free, and all other freshwater fishing regulations still apply.

Don’t have fishing equipment? Borrow fishing gear for the day from one of many statewide providers through the I FISH NY program, which seeks to increase fishing participation and awareness of statewide fishing opportunities. The website also provides links to other fish education programs, free fish clinics and guides, as well as “How to” videos. With more than 7,500 lakes and ponds and 70,000 miles of rivers and streams, there are plenty of places to try freshwater fishing in New York State. Visit “Places to Fish” for ideas on places to go.

Will no-fine fishing regulation violation tickets be issued as well? Please don’t touch trout with dry hands.

Such an opportunity for somewhere in Hamilton County to be part of the loaner program for these days, a little disappointing to see not one location there in the list.
