Melissa is a journalist with experience as a reporter and editor with the Burlington Free Press, Ithaca Journal and Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. She worked as a communications specialist for the Adirondack North Country Association and is currently digital editor for Adirondack Explorer, overseeing both the Explorer's website and its community forum the Adirondack Almanack. She enjoys hiking, camping and other outdoors activities, and spending time with her husband, their twin daughters, and rescue animals -- two dogs and two cats.

Hi all! Just a friendly reminder that the Almanack is open to all who wish to contribute!

The Adirondack Almanack is a public forum dedicated to promoting and discussing current events, history, arts, nature and outdoor recreation and other topics of interest to the Adirondacks and its communities

Contributors include local writers, historians, naturalists, and outdoor enthusiasts from inside and outside the Adirondack region.

Housing series wraps with in-person event

The gap between what people earn and the housing they can afford has been widening in the Adirondacks.

Add to the problem a shortage of available housing and constraints on development and you’ve got a housing crisis.

This summer, Adirondack Explorer launched a series that shows how Adirondack housing issues are connected to other community challenges. As part of the reporting, the articles also highlight efforts underway to offer potential solutions.

Adirondack Explorer’s “Taking Stock of Housing” series is wrapping with an event, comprised of individuals and organizations doing housing work across the region. Connect with others who care deeply about how to fix this problem, while we ask “what’s next” for how to get there.
