ANCA and Bike Adirondacks Announce Bike the Barns Route and Farm Stops

KEESEVILLE, N.Y. — The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) and Bike Adirondacks have announced the route and farm stops for this year’s Bike the Barns — a half-day bicycle tour that engages participants with North Country farms and the region’s local food movement. The 25-mile road cycling route will take riders to farms and other agricultural points of interest in the Ausable and Champlain Valleys of northern New York State.
Set during the height of the region’s fall foliage season on Saturday, October 7, 2023, the morning ride will begin at Ausable Brewing Company in Keeseville, continue to the Babbie Rural Farm and Learning Museum and Northern Orchard in Peru and cross over the scenic Ausable Chasm to stops at Mace Chasm Farm and North Country Creamery in Keeseville. The ride will end back at the brewery with a celebration of live music, local food and drink and more.

Last Gloversville Food Truck Fridays Event Slated for Aug. 18th

GLOVERSVILLE, NY – The 2023 Gloversville Food Truck Fridays season will end on Friday, Aug. 18th, at Castiglione Memorial Park, located at 47 Main St. in Gloversville.

This series of lunchtime food trucks and music was a joint venture sponsored by the Gloversville Recreation Commission and Fulton County Center for Regional Growth. Corporate sponsors included Price Chopper-Market 32 and Cricket Wireless with and John and Sunday Blackmon being the music sponsor. Adirondack Plein Air Festival now underway

Forty artists have packed up their paints and canvases from Texas to Ohio and Maryland to Maine have come to the Adirondacks for a week of wonderful painting. The 2023 Adirondack Plein Air Festival started on August 14 and culminates with the huge Show & Sale, on August 19, held in the Town Hall in Saranac Lake.

Started in 2009 by Saranac Lake ArtWorks member Sandra Hildreth, this event has grown from an opportunity for local artists to get together and paint outdoors, to a nationally recognized painting experience that often attracts nearly 100 applications. 40 are selected to participate. They come to paint the Saranac Lake, which offers an abundance of mountain, lake, and river views, farmland, historic villages, rustic camps, waterfalls, marshes and bogs and more.

Antisemitism – A Historical and Present-Day Evil

Barbara McMartin Exhibit at Caroga Museum


Caroga Lake NY – The Caroga Historical Association and Museum is pleased to pay tribute to Barbara McMartin with an exhibit entitled  “Barbara McMartin: Adirondack Artist, Author, Advocate”.  The exhibit highlights Barbara’s many contributions to the Caroga area and the Adirondacks.  This exhibit has been curated by Barbara’s daughter, Nancy Long, and Nancy’s husband, Dick Loomis.  In addition, the exhibit features the artwork of three generations of the McMartin family: Barbara McMartin’s watercolors, Nancy Long’s watercolors and Casey Loomis’s mixed media art.
This exhibit runs through Aug. 27.

The Caroga museum in open Thursdays through Sundays from 1 until 4 pm through Aug. 27.
The museum is located at 145 London Bridge Rd. in Caroga Lake.

APA August 2023 Agency Meeting – Preliminary Agenda

RAY BROOK, NY – The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, August 17th and Friday August 18th, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Agency’s headquarters in Ray Brook, NY. The public is welcome to attend in person or remotely.

Public comment will be available to members of the public who attend the Agency meeting in person as well as those who participate remotely. If you would like the opportunity to make a public comment remotely, please email your name and the phone number used to call into the Board Meeting to AgencyMeeting.PublicComment@apa.ny.gov.

Those who sign up for public comment will be limited to three minutes each. Public comment will not be accepted on any agenda items that are before the Board.

Adirondack Architectural Heritage Announces 2023 Preservation Award Winners

– The AARCH Preservation Awards program annually recognizes exemplary historic preservation work throughout the Adirondack region, including sensitive restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive use, long-term stewardship, and individual achievement by a wide range of individuals and organizations.

We are happy to announce this year’s AARCH Preservation Award winners! On Friday, September 22, we will honor the awardees below at our Preservation Awards ceremony.
