Adirondack Loon Celebration, Art Show At Paul Smith’s VIC

The loon is such an iconic symbol of wilderness with its haunting call, red eyes, and distinctive markings. With all wildlife, we need to understand how to respect its boundaries while admiring it in its natural habitat. Thanks to the Adirondack Loon Center for Loon Conservation, there is a place to learn more about this aquatic bird.

Tupper Lake Wild Edibles Program Planned

The Wild Edible Adirondack Salad workshop will be held from 11 am to 1 pm at the Birch Boys storefront at 123 Park Street in Tupper Lake. The event is indoors, with the option of a foraging hike afterwards if weather permits. Featured speaker Joseph Zarzynski, part of the original discovery team for many of these ships, will lead the discussion.

Included will be a discussion of The Land Tortoise, built as a floating gun battery by the British in 1758. This 52-foot-long gunboat is North America’s oldest intact warship. It was deliberately sunk in l00 feet of water by British forces on October 22, 1758 to prevent it from falling onto the hands of French raiders. » Continue Reading.

The leaves are just starting to change colors, which always gets my family thinking about autumn activities and ways to share the Adirondacks with visitors, family, and friends. One of our favorite things about those cool nights and crisp days is making comfort food, which usually means cheese.

For the fifth year, three local cheese farms are welcoming cheese lovers, cheese likers, or even those (gasp) who have never tried cheese, for a self-guided local tour of the farmstead operations into the daily cheese.
